Purple kohl rabi. This succulent 'rooty' veg is actually the flesh bulbed lower stem, and is very popular in Eastern Europe and Germany. It's delicious raw sliced thinly in salads or served with goats cheese and walnuts; or use like turnips or swede (their brassica cousins) - particularly yummy and sweet when roasted.
